1. What are the requirements for eligibility for a scholarship applicant?
NOTICE: These scholarships are for undergraduate Music Majors!
  • The official AMCA Application lists the following requirements:

    Eligibility:
To be eligible for scholarship consideration, the following is necessary:

    1. An applicant must be a full-time college student in a Bachelor's Degree program.
    2. An applicant must be a Music Major (Voice or Choral emphasis receives preference)
    3. An applicant must be sponsored by a chorus of the Associated Male Choruses of America (AMCA).
A detailed letter of support must be sent by the sponsoring chorus to the Scholarship Chair by the deadline date. Applications without such a letter will be eliminated from the evaluation process.

    4. Previous scholarship winners who continue to meet the eligibility requirements must reapply each year.

NOTE: It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that all necessary documents accompany the scholarship application.

      AMCA Scholarship information reminders

      Important:
An applicant must individually contact a Chorus member/director of an AMCA chorus to secure a chorus sponsorship.

Sponsorship by a member chorus of the Associated Male Choruses of America (AMCA) is required. Applications without a clear indication of this sponsorship will not receive a response and will not be considered. Make sure "The AMCA Connection" is known and indicated.

A Music Major with a Vocal/Choral concentration clearly stated receives preference. An applicant should definitely support or highlight his/her vocal and/or choral interests!

2. How do I locate a sponsor?
  • Look through the basic list of AMCA choruses. AMCA Choruses are not located everywhere. If you are located some distance from a city that has an AMCA chorus and have no personal connections with that city or chorus, securing an AMCA Sponsor may be a difficult task and it is probably better that you search elsewhere for scholarships.
  • If you are located in, or located near, or have some familiarity with one of the cities that has an AMCA chorus, call a local contact person to estimate your chances (and possibly to receive an application form) before beginning the application process.
  • Please notice that the application process begins with the potential applicant contacting an AMCA chorus for help and sponsorship. The choruses are encouraged to take an active role in helping a student obtain a scholarship if qualifications can be met. Each chorus will have variations in their process so make sure you initiate your contact with them as early as possible.

3. What is the deadline date for application?
  • Applications received after March 1 will be automatically "flawed" and, if other qualified candidates are available, the applications received "on time" will receive automatic priority consideration.
  • An incomplete application (an application lacking sponsorship, letters of recommendation, or personal letter) is considered "flawed" and will be disqualified! Make sure your letters of recommendation are included with the application or that they are sent to the scholarship chair within the time lines!

4. Can you help me find a scholarship?

5. Is this music scholarship only for male students?
  • NO! These scholarships are available to any student that meets the above requirements. There have been several female "winners" of these scholarships. For names and pictures of previous scholarship winners, see the links at the bottom of this page!

6. If I apply, when will I know if I have been chosen as a scholarship recipient?
  • The "time lines" will vary slightly from one year to the next but when you send in your completed application, you will be sent information about the "times lines" for that year. Generally the scholarship winners are announced on the web site around May 1 and the applicants are notified by email and regular mail shortly after that. Scholarship checks will be sent out after the start of the Fall school term (check will be payable to the college).

For winners of previous AMCA Music Scholarships, see the links at the bottom of this page!
